Heading from Tokyo to end up, hopefully, all the way down in Fukuoka (how long do you reckon that would take by the way ?). Great to read all your experiences. Too bad I probably won't stand out quite as much as you in Japan (being Chinese-Canadian and all).
But I'd definitely give it a shot. Thanks for some of the reaffirming messages from your travels.-blhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16152513275787758993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413964664914160658.post-82474878055593625122010-12-16T13:59:09.971-08:002010-12-16T13:59:09.971-08:00In October I traveled to Japan alone. Anyway, this time I missed a train connection, then took a train that didn't go as far as I needed.
Then I overshot my stop and got off in a deserted station with no one else around and nothing in English.
I was so frustrated and upset because I was on my way to Imbe and wanted very much to see Bizen pottery. If I missed getting there, I would not be back this way.
I remembered reading one of your posts about hitchhiking in Japan. It came to my mind. I was only one train stop away form Imbe. I took my biggest piece of paper and started writing Imbe in large letters.
I'm a 63 year old woman.
Anyway just then two people showed up and told me a train would come in 15 minutes. So I chilled and got where I wanted to go.
I am very grateful to have had another option.
